A GYPSY site in Welham Green has been refused planning permission for a second time.

An application to retain Thunderbridge Yard, in Bulls Lane, for use as a travellers’ pitch was turned down by members of Welwyn Hatfield Council’s planning control committee on Thursday.

Applicants Mr J Sweeney and Mr K O’Donaghue had sought full planning permission to use the 1,350 sq m site as a gypsy site comprising two mobile homes, two touring caravans and two washrooms.

A similar application was refused in October last year, on the grounds that the site, which is on Green Belt land, is situated in a high risk flood zone, and the necessary risk assessment had not been provided.

The new application met similar problems, with officers concluding the development was inappropriate for the land, and that it once again failed top comply with several planning obligations.

The application had received 57 objections from nearby residents.
