Welwyn Hatfield Council has issued a reminder ahead of its brown bins collection service launch next month.

A council spokesman urged residents who want their service to continue uninterrupted to sign up as soon as possible.

The annual £35 collection charge will start on April 1, but although residents can sign up at any point, those who join part-way through will still need to pay the full fee.

Councillor Helen Bromley, executive member for environment, said: “We have had a very good response to the introduction of the service with nearly 8,000 people subscribing in less than two weeks.

“This shows what a valued service this is, and how keen people are to see it continue – something we would not have been able to do without introducing an annual subscription.

“I want to thank everyone who has subscribed so far.

“For those who have questions about the service, you can check the FAQs on our website.

“Going online is also the best way to subscribe to the service.”
