A borough council team responsible for preventing homelessness has been awarded a national honour.

The Housing Needs team was one of two groups in Hertfordshire to scoop a ‘gold standard’ from the National Practitioner Support Service (NPSS).

It comes after members completed 10 different challenges, each designed to help local authorities deliver more efficient homelessness services.

The group also managed to prevent around 343 people, including families, from becoming homeless in 2016/17.

The council has been contacted regarding overall homelessness figures.

Councillor Tony Kingsbury, executive member for housing and community, said: “The team works tirelessly to provide a service to the most vulnerable in our society, helping to prevent them from becoming homeless.

“I am thrilled to see them recognised for all their hard work.”

If you or anyone you know is at risk of homelessness, please contact the council on 01707 357613 or visit www.welhat.gov.uk/housing/homelessness .
