BOROUGH councillors are set to rubberstamp �2.2m worth of savings tonight (Wednesday).
The final proposals for Welwyn Hatfield Council’s revenue and capital budgets for the next financial year are set to be pushed through at a council meeting tonight.
A report prepared for councillors states: “Although the council is in a strong financial position with the revenue reserves standing at �5.7m at the start of 2010/11, we know that we are going through challenging times and we expect to draw significantly on our reserves during 2010/11 and 2011/12.
“The current economic downturn places significant pressures on the council’s budget through demand for services (e.g. increase in the administration of housing and council tax benefit claimants) and its ability to generate income.
“There is also an imposed demand by central government on local authorities to take a substantial role to revitalise the local economy.”
The meeting is being held at 7.30pm at Campus West, in WGC. It is open to the public.
