Some Welwyn Hatfield residents were left bitterly frustrated this morning after their brown bins were not emptied because of the weather.

The borough council left a note on some garden/food waste bins stating: “Due to the cold weather the contents of your brown bin have frozen.

“We have attempted to empty your bin but because the contents are frozen solid, this was unsuccessful.”

It follows the council’s plans to slap charges on collecting them.

Numerous residents vented their anger on social media, with several claiming their bin contents were not frozen.

Kelly Baker wrote: “I really wouldn’t mind if it was actually frozen, then fair enough, it’s the fact that it’s not, and now I have to wait 2 weeks for next collection, by which time it will be overflowing.”

More to follow.
