A group of caring Welwyn Hatfield residents are adding women who are being persecuted around the world to their Christmas card lists – and they want you to join them.

Members of Welwyn Hatfield Amnesty International Group have launched their Write for Rights campaign.

Euro MP Alex Mayer joined them for the launch in Welwyn Garden City on Friday.

The Welwyn Hatfield Amnesty group was founded in 1977 and forty years on is still going strong.

The group meets monthly to hold letter writing action evenings, sending around sixty letters a month to foreign governments asking them to stop persecuting prisoners of conscience, as well as organising campaign events and fundraisers.

Alex said: “I would encourage everyone to add one more card to your Christmas card list this year.

“For someone suffering harassment from the authorities, receiving messages of support can make all the difference.”
