An all-female barbershop choir in Welwyn Garden City is inviting women to work up their vocal cords for a short course starting tonight and culminating in a concert.
If you’re a woman aged 16 or over and loves to sing, Welwyn Harmony want to hear from you.
The ‘Love to Sing’ mini-course will teach singers two a capella songs in four-part harmony from scratch in just five weeks.
A mini concert for family and friends will be held on the last session.
Musical director Nickie James, who has just joined the team, promises to offer help in improving the singers’ voices.
Singers of all abilities are accepted and there is no requirement to read music.
Welwyn Harmony, who compete in national competitions such as at the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers, are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year.
The choir performs a range of concerts and ‘Sing-outs’ during the year.
In December alone the choir was hugely busy, singing for charity and in concerts at the Barn Theatre, Lemsford Jazz Club, John Lewis, the Howard Centre, and at care homes in Woolmer Green and Letchworth.
All five sessions cost £10 and the course starts tonight at the Vineyard Barn, Digswell Rise in Welwyn Garden City.
Sessions start at 7.30pm every Tuesday and finish at 9.15pm.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal parent/guardian for the whole of the session.
