A Welwyn Garden City woman is raising money for charity as she aims to progress in a prestigious beauty competition.

Fitness instructor Rebecca Lee, pictured, is currently one of 14 contestants competing for a place in the Miss England semi-final in 2017.

As part of the competition, the women have a month to promote themselves to their local area, and are encouraged to raise awareness/funds for the Miss World charity Beauty with a Purpose.

Rebecca, 24, is holding a spinathon at Hatfield Leisure Centre on October 22.

She said: “My mum has always told me to go and do it, and I never did and then realised I was nearly too old.

“I just thought I would go for it, why not?

“I do a lot for charity anyway so this is an opportunity to do it on a larger scale.”

After the votes are counted, the top three girls will automatically qualify, along with two more chosen by the judges.

The semi-final is in June 2017.

The ex-Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ pupil said: “It will be nice to know I have everyone’s support as well as knowing I can do more for charity.

“It’s a little personal because you have to put yourself out there and be quite confident, which I naturally am.

“I’m just trying to use that and my personality to help other people I suppose.”

In the last three years over £800,000 has been raised by Miss England contestants to help disadvantaged children around the UK.

You can vote for Rebecca by texting MISS SEMI14 to 63333. Text votes costs 50p.
