A Welwyn Garden City woman is hosting a dinner and dance evening this Friday in honour of her mum who died when she was just seven years old.
Gemma Bendell, 24, of Longlands Road, is hosting the glitz and glam themed event at Mill Green Golf Club from 7pm.
The former Tewin Cowper Primary School and Sir Frederic Osborn pupil’s mum died after suffering from Multiple Sclerosis in 2002, at the age of 35.
Gemma made a vow to herself that each big birthday that she celebrates she will honour Deborah Bendell’s memory - and this year it is her 25th on May 2.
As well as it being Gemma’s 25th birthday it is also the charity’s 25th anniversary that she is raising money for.
Funds raised from the evening will be donated to Multiple Sclerosis UK, which supports people suffering from the disease. For the last three years of Deborah’s life she resided in Danesbury Care Home in Old Welwyn so sadly Gemma has few memories of her mum.
Gemma told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “Doing this keeps her memory alive.”
Raffles will be available and guests are encouraged to “dress to impress”.
For £37.50 per ticket guests can expect a glass of bubbly on arrival, a two course meal and canapes, plus live music from the Tom Braggin’s band.
There will also be a DJ and disco until midnight.
For £10 guests can join in with the evening from 9pm to watch the band and for the auction.
