A Welwyn Garden City toddler has become the face of a magazine cover after her portrait came top in a highly prestigious award.

A photo of Marley Hattam, who is 23-months-old, was winner of its categories at the Master Photography Awards and of the international WPPI Awards of Excellence – held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Her picture is also on the front cover of the Master Photography magazine.

Her mother, Kelly Hattam, 27, said: “We are really really proud. We were shocked as well but chuffed to bits.”

Photographer David Calvert originally snapped Marley for a competition to go on the front of ABC magazine.

Even though she was unsuccessful, the portrait went on to win first prize in the under five’s category, last October, at the Master Photography Awards.

Then last month it came top of the children’s portrait category in Las Vegas.

Kelly, of Amethyst Walk, WGC, said: “Obviously we think she is the most beautiful little thing but it will be a nice memento for us.”

Marley was only eight months old when the pictures were originally taken but still enjoys being in front of the camera – after a bit of encouragement.

The part-time recruitment consultant added: “She likes looking at the photos after and then she starts to really enjoy it.”

Kelly, who is married to Marley’s father, David, hopes to enter her toddler in similar events.

“It would be silly not to as she is doing so well.

“I hope she will have a sense of pride and hopefully it will give her fire in the belly in the future with things,” she added.
