Despite financial pressures, a wet play area is still in the pipeline for Welwyn Garden City.

Although Welwyn Hatfield Council is feeling the strain largely due to cuts in Government funding, its proposals for Splashlands are still on the table.

A council spokesman said: “Further review work to refine the mix of new leisure facilities proposed for the north side of Stanborough Park has been ongoing over November and December and will continue through January and into February.

“In view of the council’s significant financial commitment to this project it is important to achieve the best outcome for everyone.

“The earliest date by which the Splashlands Project Board and the Cabinet may consider an options report is March and we hope to provide a further update at that stage.”

Members of the public have campaigned for a splashpark for some years.

The Splashlands swimming pool, which closed in the late 1990s, had a fondly remembered wet play area, but the site is now occupied by Vertigo Adventures.
