Police are investigating after an 87-year-old woman became the latest victim of purse thieves in Welwyn Garden City.

The elderly shopper was targeted during yesterday’s Christmas events in the town centre.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating a theft that occurred in Wigmores South between 2.30pm and 3.35pm on Thursday, November 19.

“An 87-year-old woman had her purse stolen from her, which contained a substantial amount of money and bank cards. The offender(s) attempted to withdraw funds from the victim’s account but were unsuccessful.

“Enquiries are on-going, including examining CCTV, and anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to contact Hertfordshire Constabulary via 101, quoting crime reference B1/15/3679.”
