A Welwyn Garden City GP surgery has pledged to improve contact with patients after an inspection revealed serious failings.

After the Care Quality Commission rated Peartree Surgery as “inadequate”, highlighting potentially harmful prescription errors, several patients complained on social media about the difficulty in getting through on the phone and securing appointments.

But a GP partner told the Welwyn Hatfield Times the practice would launch a new system this month, describing it as “unrivalled” in the area.

He said: “To improve GP access for patients, Peartree Group are launching a new triage system on February 20, guaranteeing all patients with new concerns a same day telephone call-back from the GP.

“This means that patients may receive advice at home or at work without having to visit the surgery.”
