Welwyn Garden City's Campus West contract up for grabs?

PLANS to outsource the management contract for a landmark WGC building are being considered by Welwyn Hatfield Council.
The council today (Thursday) confirmed it was in the process of looking at “alternative management options” for Campus West – home of Rollercity, the Hawthorne Theatre and Welwyn Hatfield Council chamber.
The move was revealed in a progress report by the council’s audit committee, which said an audit for Campus West was cancelled because of “proposed service changes due to take place”.
After the Welwyn Hatfield Times contacted the council to ask what the service changes meant, a spokeswoman said: “The council is currently considering alternative management options for Campus West, in order to ensure that it continues to provide the best possible value for money to the local community.
“That process is taking place over the next few months.
“No decisions will be made until the process has been completed.
“It was therefore, considered prudent to delay the audit of Campus West until the outcome of the process is known.”
She added that the Campus West tower and WGC Library, which is currently closed for refurbishment, were exempt from the plans.
Liberal Democrat councillor Tony Skottowe, who sits on the audit committee, said: “It’s sad to see yet another council function potentially having to be outsourced because we can’t afford to run it.
“Until we know more, I just hope the staff are not too hard done by if it is outsourced.”
