Welwyn Garden City post office temporarily closed

A Welwyn Garden City post office has temporarily closed, a Post Office spokeswoman confirmed.

Speaking about the post office in Howardsgate, she said: “Welwyn Garden City post office is closed temporarily from today due to the resignation of the postmaster. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of this branch.

“We are committed to maintaining a post office in this area of Welwyn Garden City and we are working hard to restore a post office at the existing premises as soon as possible with a new temporary postmaster.”

She added: “This branch has been run by a temporary postmaster for the past year. With branches that are run by temporary postmasters there is always the risk that a branch will close as only a week’s notice is required.

“Therefore, this is the reason that we have recently advertised the vacancy for Welwyn Garden City post office and there are two interested parties. We are at a very early stage.”
