A prominent Welwyn Garden City office block looks set to be turned into housing.

Developers are keen to turn Mercury House at number 1 Broadwater Road into 31 flats.

Planning consultants Waller Planning highlights in a supporting planning statement: “The application site would form a suitable location for housing, which would be well located with regard to local facilities in the centre of WGC, and public transport.

“Given these conclusions, we believe that prior approval is not required, and the proposed change of use should be allowed to take place without delay.

The proposal is for 28 one-bedroom flats and three two-bedroom flats.

The plan is currently open to public consultation on Welwyn Hatfield Council’s website, reference 6/2016/2160/PN11.
