A Welwyn Garden City man had a special wake-up call this week – the delivery of a rare Porsche 911 Turbo.

Mick McConvey, 53, of Coltsfoot, found himself the proud owner of the £120,000 car after winning a competition.

His wife, Cheryl, had to be persuaded to wake the shocked winner, who had got to bed just two hours earlier following a night-shift at his engineering job with EasyJet at Luton Airport.

He did not even have time to put any shoes on.

He said: “What can I say? It is definitely worth being woke up for.

“I’ve played for a little while but I never thought I would win.”

The competition was run by website Best of the Best, who can be found at a number of airports throughout the country as well as the Westfield shopping centres in Shepherd’s Bush and Stratford.

They had to use a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS for the surprise as they couldn’t get a turbo in time.
