A FORMER WGC man is set to take centre stage at the final of the first world championship of 2009 today (Sunday).

Russ Bray, 51, a former Hertfordshire county darts player, will referee the first half of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Darts Championship final at Alexandra Palace.

The match sees Phil 'The Power' Taylor meet Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld in a repeat of their 2007 PDC World Championship showdown.

Russ, who lived in WGC for more than a decade, is one of four match referees employed by the PDC, and has found fame for announcing the scores in his familiar gravelly tones.

The final is live on Sky Sports 1 from 5.50pm.

For a full interview with Russ, see the next issue of the WHT, out on Wednesday.
