A BRAIN tumour patient will be raising essential funds for fellow sufferers when he takes part in a run around Britain’s F1 Grand Prix race track.

Scott Franey is among 25 fundraisers who will be taking part in this weekend’s Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon on behalf of Brain Tumour UK – as part of Brain Tumour Awareness Month, which started yesterday (Tuesday).

Scott, 37, has been living with a grade two tumour since 2006.

And now he is raising funds for research to help find a cure and raise awareness of the condition.

It will be his second half marathon, and he will be supported on the sidelines by his wife Claire and daughter Isabella, three.

“I was first told that my tumour was inoperable and there was nothing doctors could do for me,” said Scott, from Panshanger, WGC.

“That was a very distressing time for my family.

“My wife and I went on the internet and researched the condition and I have subsequently changed consultants and had three operations.”

Scott, the son of Welwyn Hatfield Council deputy leader Alan Franey, said he is rarely affected by the condition.

“I get the occasional headaches, and I get tired quite a bit, but other than that it doesn’t really affect me,” he said.

As well as aiming to complete the 13.1-mile course in under two hours, Scott is hoping to raise at least 2,000 for Brain Tumour UK, which funds research, raises awareness and provides support to anyone affected by a brain tumour.
