A Welwyn Garden City library will be among those in Hertfordshire to host a scam awareness session following a recent spike in the crimes.

The Scam Aware roadshow will be taking place throughout the rest of the month, with Woodhall Library hosting its event on Friday, July 21, between 10am and 12pm.

It has been organised by the police in partnership with adult care services, and is designed to give local people the opportunity to learn more about doorstep, phone and postal cons.

As part of the drive the event highlights the plight of a Welwyn Garden City resident in his 90s who spent over £60k during a 10-year period on useless items from catalogues.

The situation only came to light when he got dementia and his family took over his affairs.
