WELWYN Garden City Library will close for four days next month for the installation of new self service machines.

The Library, in Campus West, will be shut from October 4 to October 8 when the new issue and return equipment will be put in.

The library is one of five left withought the hi-tech new machines, in the countywide roll out, which has also seen them installed at libraries in Hatfield and Woodhall.

Despite the move towards automation a County Council spokesman insisted the machines would not lead to redundancies.

“He added: “It is a new issue and return system that is going in libraries across the county, 41 libraries have already got it.”
