THE new QE2 Hospital WILL have an A&E department, it has been revealed.

The plans – subject to approval later this week by NHS East of England – would see the proposed local general hospital in WGC retain its blue light emergency provision.

Intermediate care beds will also be incorporated, and a feasibility study into a maternity unit staying on site will be commissioned.

The QE2 had been set to lose these major services to the Lister Hospital, in Stevenage, and be downgraded.

However, these plans were put on hold and subsequently reviewed by the Coalition Government – a Conservative election pledge.
