A Welwyn Garden City new mum has taken multi-tasking to new heights by winning a hospice lottery the same day as she gave birth to her baby girl.

It was a double celebration on January 11 when Beth Smith from Welwyn Garden City gave birth to her first baby at the same moment her numbers came up in the Isabel Hospice weekly £1,000 lottery.

When lottery manager Lisa tried to call to let her know, Beth couldn’t answer the phone because she was in labour.

Beth had been in labour for four days before 8lbs Frankie finally arrived at 8.45pm - bringing her own nest egg with her!

Lisa popped round to the lucky couple a few days later congratulate the family and take the new mum a bunch of flowers.

Beth said: “I’m not Hertfordshire born and bred but I now live here and I’d seen the Hospice’s shops and the Living Well Hub near where I live in Welwyn Garden City.

“When I found out I’d won £1,000 on the day Frankie was born I couldn’t believe it!

“I’m thinking of donating some money back to the hospital for all the support they gave me during labour and we will definitely treat Frankie to a new outfit or two!

“I’ve won £10 on the hospice lottery before but now I have the top prize.”
