A woman is “shaken up” after a thug reportedly shattered her car window in Welwyn Garden City while she was sitting in it on Saturday.

The pensioner had been sitting in the front of her dark blue Ford Fiesta on Cole Green Lane, near Woodhall shops at just after 6pm.

The woman’s husband said: “All of a sudden there was an almighty bang,” as the young man punched the window, smashing it.

“She was in tears.”

The husband added: “It’s lucky my grandchildren weren’t in the car.”

Onlookers told her that they had seen the thug leaving the Pear Tree Inn moments earlier.

“We were told that his girlfriend had just dumped him but there’s no reason for him to do what he did,” said the pensioner, adding that he wasn’t sure if the man had even been aware the car was occupied.

The woman’s son said:“She is very shaken up and could not sleep last night.”

The police, who are making ongoing enquiries, believe the man is in his early 20s.
