MORE than 180 homes were left without power overnight due to an underground cable fault.

An emergency generator was drafted in to bring the electricity back to the homes in Boundary Lane and surrounding roads in WGC.

Power was lost at around 2pm yesterday (Monday).

One resident told the WHT: "We were originally told the power would be back on at 6.30pm, then 10.30pm.

"A generator arrived at 1am but it wasn't connected.

"The engineer forgot his umbrella, so didn't want to stand in the rain!"

An EDF Energy spokeswoman said: "Our engineers connected a generator at 8.30am today which will be energised as soon as possible, to restore supplies on a temporary basis until the fault can be located and repaired.

"We would like to reassure residents that our engineers do work in all weathers, as long as it is safe to do so.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
