Welwyn Garden City’s general election hustings has been postponed following the terror attack in Manchester last night.

The suicide attack in the Manchester Arena followed a concert by pop singer Ariana Grande, and left 22 people dead and 59 injured.

All political campaigning ahead of the June 8 vote has been suspended today, and as a result the hustings organised by Isabel Hospice scheduled for this evening in Christchurch, Tewin Road, has been rearranged for June 6.

A hospice spokeswoman said: “You will have seen the news of the terrible attack in Manchester last night.

“Our condolences and thoughts go out to the families of those killed and injured, and everyone who was there who has been affected.

“Out of respect for the victims we have decided to postpone the 2017 election hustings planned for tonight, and reschedule for Tuesday, June 6, at the same time at the same location.

“It’s a difficult decision as the aim of terrorism is to disrupt and create terror and so we often seek to carry on.

“But we recognise the decision of the political parties to suspend campaigning as a mark of respect for the many dead and injured and their families, and we’ve follow this approach by rescheduling our 2017 election hustings.”
