The Welwyn Garden City fire service was called out to two separate reports of fires in the same hour.

Yesterday at 4.21pm the fire service received a call to reports of a fire in the garden of a domestic property on The Crescent, Welwyn.

Herts Fire Control tweeted: “A crew from Welwyn Garden City attended. On their arrival the crew found this to be controlled burning.”

In the same hour at 4.49pm the Welwyn Garden City crew attended a property in Hyde Valley, after reports came in of an open fire.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Country Council said: “A crew attended to discover it was a false emergency and was actually a controlled fire.”
