A Welwyn Garden City family believe a boy from another time is lurking in their home, playing tricks on them and causing them to feel cold during the dead of the night.
The family who have lived in the property in Howlands for 10 years started noticing creepy things happening after a couple of years of living there.
It started with the bathroom bin being tipped over and emptied out and the cupboard under the kitchen sink but things quickly got eerier.
One evening after a day of seeing things out of the corner of her eye, the current owner of the house and mum-of-two was looking up the stairs at her 16-year-old daughter who was talking to her when she saw her son run past behind her.
The mum told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “I called out to him to get to bed and he answered that he was in bed. And he was!”
The family believe they have a poltergeist in their home, who is a “young boy from another time” who is often very noisy and messy.
For ages the mum never said anything to anyone until her own mum baby-sat and said that although the children were fast asleep, the house was “very noisy”.
Things became even more surreal after a very sceptical friend stayed in her son’s room and confessed that they were woken at 2am by intense coldness around their legs.
The mum, who has named the ghost Kevin, believes her son’s room was Kevin’s room and out of the corner of her eye claims she sees things in there all the time.
She said: “Kevin has caused arguments by opening the window to tempt the cat outside and we have all blamed each other.
“Before we had a cat he made so much noise in the corner of my bedroom that I was convinced we had mice.
“He has hidden things and made my bed shake and sat on it, but he doesn’t seem harmful.”
The most chilling tale the mum shared was how one night her son called out to her from upstairs and sounded upset.
But when she got to him he was fast asleep and then she heard “Muuuuuummm” from another bedroom - an empty one.
