A Welwyn Garden City commuter whose wife was in an accident on the A1(M) has created a petition to make the accident prone stretch of road safer.

Phil Bradwell’s wife has suffered since February 2015 with a dislocated shoulder injury after an accident occurred when she was travelling from Letchworth to Stevenage North.

Phil 33, who commutes to Welwyn Garden City from Letchworth on the A1(M) said: “Its made her arm extremely weak. Its been a nightmare she struggles to pick up our daughter because of it.”

On Thursday, February 18, Phil was on his way back on the A1(M) when a crash happened just five cars in front of him near Junction 7 for Stevenage.

He said: “The incident I saw and the incident with my wife encouraged me to get up and do something. So I thought you know what, I’ll make a petition.”

Phil is petitioning to make the A1(M) between Junction 10 for Stotfold to Junction 6 Welwyn safer.

He added: “Personally I do think something needs to be done as so many accidents happen on that stretch. There needs to be extra lanes, there is a large number of people in a small area and they knock into each other.

“Of course I do understand that in some instances it is down to driver error.”
