A Welwyn Garden City chef has scooped a top award at the annual Curry Life Awards in London.

Noor Miah, who works at the Red Indian Restaurant in Wigmores North, won the Chef of the Year category in front of more than 600 people at the glitzy event.

Restaurant manager Aziz Miah said: “We’re all delighted for Noor Miah. He is an amazing chef and whatever he touches tastes great.

“Ever since opening this place we are going from strength to strength thanks to his efforts in the kitchen.

“Customers often come in and ask him to rustle up something special that isn’t on the menu, and he is comfortable doing

that at the drop of a hat because he loves experimentation.”

The Curry Life Awards was launched in 2009 to recognise outstanding British curry houses.

Shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer MP, the ceremony’s chief guest, said: “The curry industry makes a huge contribution to the economy and is an integral part of the UK dining experience.”
