LUSH night in DJs’ memory raises funds for Welwyn Garden City hospice

A dance night organised in memory of two Welwyn Garden City DJs raised the roof - and hundreds of pounds for a hospice.
Organiser Deniz Gentle says she’s “absolutely thrilled” at the energy and enthusiasm that people brought to the dance night she organised in memory of DJs Scott Franey and Justin Roberts.
When Justin tragically died in 2002, Scott carried on DJing to raise money for Justin’s family. Later, Scott’s life was ended by a tumour.
The greatly-missed two men left a legacy of brilliant nights out and community kindness, which Deniz wanted to pay respect to.
In a nod to L.U.S.H., the nights Scott and Justin used to organise, her flyers said “Let’s Unlock Some History”, and that’s exactly what the community did.
At The View, on Saturday October 20, guests danced the night away and raised over £900 for Isabel Hospice, who cared for Scott in his last days.
“I didn’t think I was capable of doing it myself,” said Deniz. “But it was the good vibes that everybody brought with them.
“Normally it takes ages to get people dancing but it was far busier!”
“It felt really light,” she said. “The point was just to bring everyone together as a thank you for Scott and Justin.”
She was also thankful to the friends who have helped her get the event off the ground.
The event was a one-off, but asked if she’ll be organising similar nights, she just said: “Watch this space!”
