AFTER raising hundreds of thousands of pounds the chair of a charity in WGC has stepped down.

Barbara Sharp, 89, spent 32 years in her position at Save the Children and organised countless events.

She said: “I’m proud of all the hard work that the local branch has contributed to Save the Children over the years. “It has been a real pleasure and I couldn’t have done it without all of you.”

Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, councillor Howard Morgan, presented Barbara with a floral basket at this year’s Open Garden event.

And she received a cut-glass bowl from Save the Children’s head office.
