Professional garden designers have toured Welwyn Garden City, hoping to win a commission to celebrate the town's centenary in three years' time.
The Welwyn Garden City Centenary Foundation has decided to mark the centenary with a garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in May, 2020.
On three separate dates, groups of designers have been shown round key parts of the town by local historian Angela Eserin, who explained its history and founding principles.
The winning design will be created at the Chelsea show, and eventually relocated to Welwyn Garden City.
Project leader Caroline Baynes said: “There has been plenty of interest from designers, which is lovely.
“They have been given a deadline of October 2 to submit their designs.
“The tours ended with question and answer sessions, and much positive feedback. One designer said the walking tour was most informative and really gave a feel of the town.
“Another enjoyed seeing the town in its summer glory, and said it was ‘truly beautiful’.
“We are very grateful to Humphrey’s Café [in Campus West] for helping to host three successful events.”
