A WGC-based charity has won a Government grant to help transform the lives of carers and their families in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Carers Worldwide, which was founded by husband and wife Ruth and Anil Patil, was awarded £50,000 from the Department for International Development’s Small Charities Challenge Fund.

The money will be used to help carers in Dhaka access improved medical services and counselling, receive help with employment and financial support, and join support groups where they can meet other carers.

The Patils founded the charity in 2012 with the aim to help unpaid family carers in developing countries. They were motivated by their experiences caring for their youngest daughter, who has Down’s Syndrome.

Ruth said: “We are looking forward to working with the team from the Department for International Development as we transform the lives of carers and their families.”
