A CAR park in WGC was left “structurally unsafe” after a motorist accidentally drove through a brick wall, leaving a gaping hole.

The accident happened on Sunday, when a green Suzuki Wagon Estate crashed through the wall of Hunters Bridge car park in Osborne Way, while attempting to leave the facility.

The driver, an 83-year-old woman, and her husband, who was also in the car, were uninjured, despite the vehicle almost landing onto the train tracks close to WGC rail station.

A council spokeswoman said the car park had now been made safe and was still open to the public.

“The council understands that an elderly couple lost control of their vehicle on the exit of Hunters Bridge car park, continuing straight beyond the barrier instead of turning right,” she said.

“The incident created a hole in a brick wall at the end of the car park, which has been declared structurally unsafe by engineers.

“The area has now been made safe and the car park remains open to the public.

However, the spokeswoman added that the council was still adding up the cost of the damage.

“A specification for the rebuilding work is presently being devised before any repair work can be undertaken,” she said.
