Welham Green gas incident centre closed

Gas engineers have closed their incident centre in Welham Green as they have reconnected nearly all affected homes to the supply.

By yesterday evening, National Grid staff had restored gas to 98 per cent of the approximately 1,400 homes that were first cut off a week earlier.

A spokesman said: “Only those properties where we haven’t been able to gain access, for example if people are away, are left, so we have closed the incident room at the bowls club. We’re asking people to ring 0845 835 1111 to get their supplies reconnected.”

The company is investigating how a water leak into a gas main interrupted the supply on Sunday, September 11.
