Gusty winds wreaked havoc across Hertfordshire this morning, sparking 162 reports of fallen trees, and now the Met Office is forecasting possible snowfall.
Herts County Council Highways tweeted: “Up until 12pm we have received 162 reports of fallen trees and branches, 102 of these requiring an emergency response and 26 urgent 24-hour.
“Ringway have responded by pulling additional crews off planned work to deal with the volumes received.”
In Mandeville Rise, Welwyn Garden City, a large tree fell across the road.
Jude Spruce, of Digswell Rise, Welwyn Garden City, took a picture of the fallen tree while on the school run.
She told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “I was walking my daughter Eleanor to Templewood School with her little brother Alex this morning and we couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw the tree on the road.
“Fortunately I think all the Templewood children were safe, just fascinated!”
The Met Office states that tonight should be “largely clear and cold, leading to a widespread frost”.
Tomorrow is expected to be a dry day with sunny spells.
The Met Office states: “It will still feel cold, with brisk winds [tomorrow].
“One or two rain or hail showers are still possible, these mainly in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 5 °C.
“The outlook for Saturday to Monday is a frosty start on Saturday, then bright with a chance of rain in the south.
“Frost overnight, before rain arrives from the west on Sunday, possibly preceded by snow.
“Monday milder. Clouding over with rain likely later.”
