Winds of over 50 miles an hour are likely to hit Welwyn Hatfield tonight, forecasters warn.
The Met Office predicts “locally heavy rain” from 12 noon onwards, with wind speeds up to about 55 miles an hour by 10pm.
According to an official warning covering Hertfordshire in general: “Be aware of the risk of disruption to travel, and that gusts of this strength could bring down trees and lead to some damage to weakened structures.”
Parts of Yorkshire are still underwater from Storm Abigail last week, but the new gale, named Barney, is predicted to hit hardest in western Scotland and Wales.
