TWO opposing key figures have united to resurrect a forum due to keep Hatfield residents up to date with the on hold town centre plans.

John Dean, leader of Welwyn Hatfield Council, has invited Mike Hobday, head of campaign group Action Hatfield, to join a forum set to be held later this month.

Cllr Dean, who was criticised for not being aware of the delay to the revamp project, told the WHT it was "extremely important to talk to the tenants and residents of Hatfield".

He added: "In the past we have had trouble getting people together for the forum, but this time round I don't think that will be a problem.

"I'm looking forward to getting into it and having the members of the public coming up with some ideas to help make the town centre a little more viable.

"The ideas that Mike [Hobday] and his people are putting forward are ones that we have been discussing at the council.

"I do not see the point of having more than one organisation to deal with this so we should work together."

Mr Hobday agreed to form the alliance, but said that he was still keen to keep the council "on its toes".

"We would be pleased to work with the council," he said.

"We are concerned that they have been so complacent about running the redevelopment and informing residents but working with them will benefit Hatfield.
