THERE is confusion over plans for new waste sites in Times Territory.

The public consultation into the proposals ended on Monday.

But county council chiefs have apparently used outdated maps to plan their locations.

Sites in Burrowfields and Chequersfield in WGC were two highlighted as possibles.

But both have already had houses built on them.

The revelation prompted Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps to criticise the whole consultation process, branding it "to complicated".

He also said it was not long enough.

One site very much still in the frame for some form of development is the former New Barnfield School site on the edge of Hatfield.

It looks favourite for a waste-to-energy (incinerator) plant.

This is bound to lead to controversy.

Defending its use of maps chosen for the consultation a county council spokesman said: "The latest maps we have used are from Ordnance Survey.

"They are protected and we cannot update them ourselves and that is the reason they may not show new information.

"It's important that people contact us with their views so we can feed that information into the process."
