Rogue blue badge users have been caught out in the Hertsmere borough.

In 2016, Hertfordshire County Council received 14 complaints about blue badge misuse in the Hertsmere borough.

A spokeswoman said: “From these we identified eight cases where there may have been misuse and issued warning letters to the keepers or person suspected of misuse.”

Hertsmere Borough Council, councillor John Graham, portfolio holder for finance, property and economic development, said: “We take blue badge fraud very seriously.

“Anyone who is using a blue badge which they aren’t entitled to or has doctored a badge for their benefit is taking help away from those who genuinely need it.

“If you suspect someone may be misusing a blue badge, or committing council tax or tenancy fraud, contact us straightaway.”

The Shared Anti-Fraud Service was formed to tackle tenancy, blue badge and council tax fraud in April 2015 as a partnership between Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council and four other district and borough councils.

To report someone committing fraud against Hertsmere Borough Council visit the SAFS webpage www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/reportfraud or call 0300 123 4033. All information provided will be treated in confidence.
