Warning to villagers after spate of car thefts

PUBLISHED: 06:31 09 September 2011

CAR owners in Welham Green have been warned to keep personal possessions out of sight, after 19 thefts from vehicles in the village since July.

In the latest incidents, sunglasses and perfume were taken from a silver Audi in Meadow Close, and keys, cash and sunglasses from a silver BMW convertible parked in Station Road, overnight on Thursday.

Both cars had been left unlocked.

Inspector Ian Grout said: “The majority of residents in Welham Green have not only left their vehicles insecure but many have left personal possessions on display.

“If you don’t want your possessions stolen, take them with you and lock your car, even if it is parked on your driveway.”

He added: “It only takes a few seconds to secure your car and could save you a lot of hassle.”
