The RSPCA is appealing for information about a dead horse found dumped in a ditch in Hatfield.
On Wednesday, March 2, the body of a young black filly was found by police in a ditch near the junction of Station Road on Bradmore Lane, Brookmans Park.
She had no microchip or other identification and her body had started to decompose.
RSPCA inspector Stephanie Law said: “I’m disgusted that yet another horse has been dumped like rubbish in a ditch.
“I was called about a similar incident involving a dumped dead horse in Hatfield about a month ago. Who knows what happened to this poor animal before she died and it is callous and unacceptable for horses to be treated like this.
“Anyone with any information about how she died, or evidence that an animal welfare offence may have been committed, should contact us on 0300 123 8018.”
Inspector Law added: “Sadly, cases like this are not uncommon. The country is currently in the grip of a horse crisis with the RSPCA and other horse welfare charities struggling to cope with the numbers of abandoned, neglected and abused horses.”
The body has now been removed by the local council.
