A FIRE broke out this morning (Friday) at a warehouse in Welwyn Garden City.

Four engines tackled the flames at RTI Advanced Forming, in Watchmead, after receiving a call around 8.30am.

The Decontamination Environmental Protection Unit also arrived as concerns were raised about whether chemicals had been involved.

The fire broke out in the workshop area of the industrial warehouse.

The crisis was over around 9am and all people were accounted for but it was not until just after 10am all equipment used to battle the flames were decontaminated.

A spokesperson for Herts County Council said: “There was a chemical involved within the machinery on fire but it was contained very quickly and there was never any danger to the public.”

The fire is being treated as accidental.
