A VET will be running the Virgin London Marathon 2013 today (Sunday) as a big “thank you” to a charity which helped his daughter.

Marc Festraets, who works at the Attimore Vets, in Ridgeway, Welwyn Garden City, is taking part today to raise money for Sense.

His daughter, who is at university, is currently on a work placement with the charity, which helps deafblind people, as part of her degree and Mr Festraets wanted to show his appreciation.

He said: “I am running as a thank you to them.”

The 51-year-old has been in training for eight months and is incredibly excited about taking part.

“I think it is going to be a wonderful experience that is not to be missed,” he added.

The vet, who used to live in Panshanger, decided he wanted to do the marathon after going along last year and being caught up in the atmosphere.

So far he has raised more than £600 of his £1,500 target.
