A COUPLE in their 70s will run the Virgin London Marathon for the 23rd time this year.

Garden City Runners stalwarts Eleanor, 77, and Dennis Draper, 76, of Longcroft, Welwyn Garden City, will take part in Sunday’s race and raise money for the Isabel Hospice.

The 26.2mile race will be the couple’s 23rd London Marathon and they are hoping to get round within five hours, although neither are looking to beat their previous personal bests.

Eleanor said: “We just run and see what happens.”

Dennis added: “I don’t think we’ll beat our times now. I’ve got a new hip and it is not as fast as my last one.”

But Eleanor said she is determined to keep running for as long as she can.

The pair say they keep active by exercising two or three times a week and regularly take part in cross-country marathons.

This year they are hoping to raise £1,000 for the WGC-based hospice.
