More than 3,000 violence and sexual crimes in Welwyn Hatfield last year

Statistics show the number of violent incidents police dealt with in 2018.


Across the borough there were 3,049 offences in total, showing an increase from 2,758 in 2017, and 2,169 in 2016.

Most offences came under the remit of Herts Police, with 14 being dealt with by British Transport Police at Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield and Brookmans Park stations.

In 14 of the instances in 2018, the offender was either sent to prison or given a suspended prison sentence.

In Potters Bar there were 526 crimes which fell in the category of ‘violence and sexual offences’ last year. This is an increase from 2017, when there were 434, and 2016, when there were 388.

Of these offences, five took place at Potters Bar station.

None of the offenders who were identified were sent to prison, but in 10 instances the offenders were given a caution and in one the offender was given a community sentence.
