An award winning sculptor’s Vincent Van Gogh bust was officially unveiled in Welwyn over the weekend.

Anthony Padgett created the bust, praised as “very remarkable” by Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum, as a tribute to the one-eared artist’s links to the village.
Van Gogh was said to have travelled to Welwyn from Ramsgate in 1876 to visit his sister Anna, who was working in a girls’ boarding school.
Following the unveiling near Bridge Cottage Surgery, former councillor Sandra Kyriakides said: “The event was fantastic. The weather was glorious and a very large crowd turned out for the unveiling.
“Everyone who saw the sculpture just loved it – the likeness is amazing and the quality of the work is stunning. What a talented young man.”

Anthony is donating his cold-cast sculpture to five sites across Europe with links to the artist.
“I see it as an honour and a privilege to create such a work and I hope that you like the work,” he said.
