THE managers of a village pub have been ordered to take down a wooden smoking shelter which was built without planning permission.

Bosses at The Chequers, in London Road, Woolmer Green, will be served with an enforcement notice by Welwyn Hatfield Council, which will require them to take down the structure within one month.

Permission to issue the notice was granted by the council’s planning control committee, which met on Thursday.

In seeking authorisation to begin enforcement procedures, council officer Mitchell Kitts wrote that the shelter was detrimental to the character and appearance of the pub, which is a Grade II-listed structure.
