DRAMATIC footage of ramraiders making a getaway from a daylight Welwyn Garden City bank robbery has been posted online.
The clip posted on YouTube shows the moment the grey Nissan Micra sped away from the Howardsgate Halifax branch after the driver smashed through the doors.
After the cash had been snatched on Thursday at around 3.20pm the car screeched off on the pavement.
Onlookers were stunned when the car suddenly careered through the doors.
Staff at the Martin’s newsagent opposite saw the bank job unfold.
Dave Robb said: “There was a car in the door, I heard a bang and there was a car in the door.
“Then it came out and we saw it drive off the path and disappear.”
Co-worker Coral Ballard added: “At first we thought it was a joke like a film or something, then the door was down and everyone was panicking – we clocked that it was serious.”
Police confirmed the car has been recovered
Officers are appealing for information and residents are urged to call Herts Police’s non-emergency number 101 to help with enquires.
Police say the crooks made off with a substantial amount of cash but a spokeswoman would not reveal the extent of the theft.
